HZG – Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht, Zentrum für Material- und Küstenforschung

Why are you involved in the COHERENT project?

The Institute of Coastal Research at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht (HZG) is leading in coastal research across a broad range of thematic areas: from regional environmental modeling to the human dimensions, including questions of resilience, vulnerability and adaptability of societal coastal systems.
In this project, HZG will e.g. apply and evaluate well established methodologies in other project contexts in Germany and support our Danish counterparts in their endeavor for strategic and participatory decisions in flood management.

What are your contribution to the project?

HZG would like to contribute to the COHERENT project by jointly improving the methodological spectrum to facilitate closer interaction between professionals, local decision-makers, operational managers and the business sector in flood risk management and sharing our methodological and empirical experiences on participatory stakeholder involvement.

What impact do you expect the project to have?

HZG supports COHERENT by consulting the partners in methods and tools for participatory stakeholder involvement. We expect an impact in further collaboration with the Danish partners in forthcoming projects and hope to gain scientific knowledge transfer not only between science and society but also between Denmark and Germany.
